Post: I'm wandering if this Thyroid Helper does what it says : Top thyroid & metaolism supplement naturally boosts metabolism, reduces fatigue, enhances conversion of T4 to T3, and helps to burn fat more efficiently. Please say it's true then I'll buy a truck load.
Reply: hi there,
Post: I really have been having a terrible time. I was diagnosed with an under active thyroid after the birth of my third child 2 years ago and since then it has been HELL. I am currently on a combination of 175mg of thyroxine and 2 tablets of T3 and although I feel better than what I did I still feel like shit and so tired!!! Does anybody have any natural remedies or massage or reflexology treatments or anything that they can recommend- I really am desperate and sometimes feel that I just want to give up. Please somebody help. My doctor wont listen and i am at the end of my tether. Managing with 3 young children and a husband that works away alot and having this problem is just too much. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Reply: Hi Sophbird. I dont know whether you have seen my messages about Thyroid Throu, but this natural chinese herb really works. Its for all thyroid disease and clears out blockages in the thyroid.
Reply2:I don't know how or what might help, but I just wanted to ask you if you have Hashi's, which is an autoimmune disease that causes hypothyroid? I know that there is another option in the US for meds that is Armour, and I put something about it here on the forum about meds. It is really hard to get a doctor in the UK to give it, it is diesected pig thyroid hormon, and it worked alot better for me that the levo did. I took the levo for more than two years with no releif. Then my doctor here in the US switched me to Armour, and that made a major difference. I don't know if you can get it there, but I have heard of people being able to get it off the internet(but who knows how safe that is). There is a site for Armour, I think it is Armour.com that gives a conversion chart of what should be taking to replace the amount of levo your on. Armour has T3 and T4, which isn't in the levo, hince the reason for you having to take both those meds. Check into the med, do some research, who knows what you might find. I know there are some people on the forum that have had luck getting this med in the UK. It was a long hard fight for them though.
Post: My endo put me on 40mg of neomercazole just over 4 weeks ago and just recently I, and everyone around me has noticed my left eye is painful and looking very strange , in fact I was on holiday last week and took lots of photos , when I emailed one to my daughter she remarked it looked like I've had a stroke!!I go to see my endo next week but havn't got much faith in him when I told him that my glasses prescription had changed dramatically in the last year he remarked that he didn't think that had anything to do with my thyroid problems? I think he has more knowledge in diabetes etc , but the head endo is off on maternity leave .Has anyone any advice on what I can say to the endo when I see him , last time I went I was very emotional and cried all the way through the appointment , I do feel a bit better with the meds and am sleeping a bit better but if it is these meds that are affecting my eye I would rather try something else.
Reply: I found this article about TED, Why does Thyroid Eye Disease occur ?
We do not really know. In some people it happens at the same time as the overactive thyroid gland; in some it happens before the thyroid gland becomes overactive, or even with an underactive or apparently normal thyroid gland. In some people it only comes on months or years after the original thyroid condition has been diagnosed and treated. We don't know why it may affect only one eye, or one eye more than the other. It is certainly not caused directly by having too much thyroid hormone. Treating the overactive thyroid gland does not usually affect the way the eyes behave: in fact the eyes may get briefly worse, particularly if the thyroid is allowed to become temporarily underactive. It tends to run in families; more so in females. It is also more common in smokers Hope this help.
Response to reply: Saw a different endo???? yesterday another locum. my bloods show an improvement but when I mentioned my eye he looked at me as if I was off my tree!! he hummed and hawed and then gave me eye drops and Moduretic tablets for my eye !!! does this make sense to anyone ? I looked up my drugs book and it mentioned diuretics can be used in some cases of glaucoma but there is no suggestion of that .It wasn't until I was out that it occured to me that I don't think he's heard of TED he did say that he was going to refer me to the eye clinic but I don't know how long it will take to get an appointment I have to return to the endo clinic in 8 weeks in the meantime I don't think I'll take the diuretics I have enough problems with sleeping etc without having to get up and down during the night to use the loo . Is it as I suspect the locum hadn't a clue or has anyone else been treated for TED with diuretics ?
Post: Hello, I have had Hashimoto's for over 10 years that I can figure...but only diagnosed in the last 6 years. I have had a hard time getting the doctors to prescribe the correct dose of Armour thyroid so that I can at least function. Right now I am on 3 grains (180mg) a day and could stand to have a little more. The dr's cut me down to 2 1/2 grains last summer and I gained 25 pounds in 2 weeks, my temp. dropped to 96 and lower, I could not stay awake and my goiter/nodules immediately came back. It took me almost a year to return to "normal" after I went back up to 3 grains. They have done this to me over 3 times now and the same things happen. I do not have a rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, sweating or any other hyper symptoms on that dose, but the dr's do not want to give me that dose based on my blood tests being "normal"....TSH=near 0, normal t4 and slightly high t3.
My question is what is the usual dose of Armour and what is considered high? Why would I need such a high dose of thyroid meds? Why do the doctors not want to give me what keeps me alive and functioning? My one dr. now who prescribes my Armour doesn't do blood tests but will be leaving soon and I have gone to over 25 doctors trying to keep on my thyroid but to no avail. Sorry so long, and thanks!
Reply: I am on 5.5 grains and I think he will be increasing me again. My doc doses on symptoms only and I have just gotten my temps up to 98.0. I am starting to feel so much better but still have some joint issues and haven't lost anything yet. Good luck and don't be afraid of a high dose, some of us just need it!
Reply2: I'm not up to the difference between your measurements there and the ones in the US. So I would love to say what is what, but can't. What I can say is that if you are on Armour and you do seem to be on a high dose, is there any way that you can have your doc perscribe a T3 replacement as well(that may help)

can someone tell me what i can do ,, problem i am very hypo,, was on armour made my tounge very thick
Reply: it may not be the meds causing the itching, as people with hypothyroid have very dry skin which in turns causes itching. How long have you been on these meds? Also if it were me I wouldn't have stopped the synthroid. I would stopped the cytomel(actually wouldn't stop any unless doc says too). As the synthroid may help more so than the other.
