Hi all, I was diagnosed with Hashimotos and a Large Goiter back in February of this year. At original diagnosis my TSH came back at 24.4 through medication came down to 11.4 ( 6 months later ) . At this point I had a Total Thyroidectomy and now almost 3 months later my TSH is still going up. I am back to 19.8 . My doctor is increasing my dosage of synthroid by .25 mic every 6 weeks and I am now taking 1.75 mic a day. My question is ......does this sound like a reasonable amount of time and dosage ? Does anyone have any insight or stories similar to mine? The strangest thing of all is that I know the goiter was huge for the last 8 years because I couldn't wear my necklace or a turtle neck sweater any longer and I was only diagnosed because the doc ran some routine blood work at my yearly checkup. I just thought I was a lazy nut of a woman.

Hi I have a goiter which my doctor picked up. I was referred to a consultant who tested me and said I was borderline. He retested a week later and he said it had gone back to normal. He thought it may have been a a viral infection. Three years on and I am noticing the goiter a lot more. Sometimes I have difficulty swallowing somethimes I wake up in the moiddle of the night choking. But I have loads of other things - I am always cold, I feel sluggish, I have a dry mouth and feel generally terrible. i had my thyroid, blood count done again last week. Receptionist says the tests are normal although I feel not right. I really dont know where to go next.. Thanks Jo

Sounds to me that you need to make sure that they are doing the proper tests, Make sure that they do Free T4, Free T3, and TSH, most docs only do the basic Free T4 and TSH, or just the TSH. There is also the TSI that needs to be done. Alot of the time that in itself will tell them if it is a thyroid problem. The TSI can be elevated and nothing else showing there is something with the thyroid going on. Please be sure to have the doc do all the thyroid study tests, don't let them off the line till they do so!! If they won't you might need to find one that will. Borderline is enough to make alot of people feel bad. What they consider borderline, might not be what YOUR body considers borderline. Please do yourself a favor and be very very pushy when it comes to the tests! It's not them that has to live this way.

Thanks for the advice I have been again to the Drs today and they have examined my goiter and say it is Cystic and fluid. I looked at my results on his computer and while the test said normal it also said I had raised antibodies. I am having a scan at the hospital now. At least things are moving, Jo
